QUALIFICATIONS: In Scholar Shop, students receive tutoring and assistance with school work. In addition, participants take part in clubs, projects and activities that help them to develop a love of learning and see the many applications of their education. Staff and volunteers in the shop work not only to ensure that students’ achieve academically, but also act as mentors and inspire participants towards higher education.

The Scholar Shop Assistant must have a commitment to bettering lives through education. The Scholar Shop Assistant should be patient and have an enthusiasm for learning. No previous teaching experience necessary, although some experience working with middle-school and high-school students in a classroom environment is helpful.

COMMITMENT: All Workshop volunteers must complete volunteer orientation. Program hours are generally on Monday through Friday, from 3:30PM to 7PM. We ask that our volunteers agree to commit to at least 8 hours per month for a minimum of 3 months.

RESPONSIBLE TO: Volunteer Coordinator.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Participate in volunteer orientation and complete training specifically pertaining to your volunteer job.
  • Attend volunteer meetings when scheduled.
  • Ensure that program participants sign-in and report to their perspective shops on time.
  • Assist program participants with homework as needed.
  • Keep staff informed about volunteer experience, job assignments, or any concerns you may have regarding the program.
