Assists the Site Manager in coordinating the volunteer drivers and runners at the congregate sites. Acts as a greeter to the volunteer drivers and runners when they arrive. Supports the staff by seeing that route sheets and supplies are prepared for the volunteer's arrival and receives and checks the route sheets upon route completion. This person helps assure a smooth and pleasant experience for the volunteer drivers. Volunteers needed for the sites in Davis, West Sacramento and Woodland. Volunteers may commit to one time per week or more.

DUTIES:

  1. Work 10:00 until 12:30 or when last driver returns, Monday-Friday.
  2. Make sure volunteer table is clean and organized.
  3. Make sure snacks, water, tea and coffee are set up and available for the volunteers
  4. Insure that volunteers sign in and log their hours.
  5. Distribute route sheets and supplies to drivers.
  6. Call any drivers that are late to remind them and check that they are still able to drive that day.
  7. Call substitute drivers to fill in on a route wherever a driver or runner is needed.
  8. Fill in as a driver if one of the regularly scheduled drivers does not show up.
  9. Communicate with the drivers and site managers about any problems that arose on the route.

Description

Meals on Wheels Yolo County (People Resources, Inc.) has been providing a daily hot meal to seniors in Yolo County for over 40 years. Freshly prepared hot food is delivered to sites in Woodland, West Sacramento, Winters and Davis. There, about 2/3 of the bulk food is packaged for home delivery by volunteers. Seniors look forward to their meal and to the personal attention of a familiar visitor. The other 1/3 of the food is plated and served to seniors who travel to the 4 senior centers to socialize over lunch.

Our organization needs volunteers to deliver meals and a friendly smile each day to seniors, particularly in our most difficult to serve communities. We also need volunteers in other areas, such as clerical, helping us care for our fleet of delivery vehicles, helping in our five kitchens, etc.
