The Putnam Museum inspires ideas, dialogue and interaction among people of all ages through entertaining experiences that connect then to history, cultures, nature and the environment, by preserving collections and presenting educational programs, giant screen films and exhibits.

Description

The Putnam is a "learning magnet" for people of all ages. Our annual reach is over 125,000 people. To enhance learning opportunities and make them fun and memorable, the Putnam has the unique ability to utilize our brand new Science Center (open 4/12/14); artifacts and exhibits; giant screen films; hands-on programs; and 3D classroom tools. We focus on fostering appreciation for careers in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math; our connections to world cultures past and present; and immersing visitors in the wonders of the natural world that surrounds and unites us. Recently, we have brought exhibits about Climate Change; GPS technology; Diana, Princess of Wales; dinosaurs; the human body and many others. We've presented giant screen films about mysteries of the unseen world (objects too small or too large for the naked eye to see); the Grand Canyon and water conservation; life in the oceans; the Alps; dinosaurs and other animals from different eras; and the exploration of space. We conduct summer camps, scouting activities and a weekend science club for children, as well as hosting special events for a variety of ages. Volunteers are most important to the Putnam's ability to present quality exhibits and programs to our community residents and our out-of-town visitors.
