Duties:
-Work with an individual patient or group in performing or teaching any form of art or music. This can include drawing, painting, culinary arts, drama, singing, song writing, vocal or music improvisation, instruments, just listening to music together, or dance/movement
-Allow patients to express themselves through art or music
-Take an active role in sessions by playing, singing, painting, drawing and listening
-Encourage clients to take part in the session, and supporting them
-Support the patient's creative development and facilitating positive changes in their behavior and well-being

Requirements: 4 hour Initial Volunteer Training Class, application, criminal background check, TB skin test, copy of driver's license, proof of auto insurance, confidentiality agreement, and liability release.

Qualifications: Patience, compassion, flexibility, dependability and good active listening skills are needed. The volunteer must be able to put the patient's interests first. Talent in an art form. Tools/instruments required to perform volunteer services.

Time Commitment: Visits are commonly made one to three times a month and are approximately 30 minutes to an hour long. The plan of care will be created with patient needs and volunteer availability in mind. We ask that volunteers to commit to a minimum of 6 months of service and 2 hours a month.

Location: Companion visits take place in the home of the patient whether it is a private residence, assisted living facility, or nursing home. We have patients all over the OKC Metro.

Reporting: Volunteer visits are part of the patient's plan of care and monthly reports of visits must be submitted at the end of each month to the Volunteer Coordinator.

Benefits: Being able to serve patients by helping them achieve positive changes in mood, relaxation, peace and comfort, anxiety and stress reduction, and memory recall, reminiscence and satisfaction with life. Continuing education in end-of-life issues is available to all volunteers.
