Dental volunteers provide general dental care to patients in 3AO's six-chair dental clinic. Trained Brazilian hygienists and assistants help the volunteers and 3AO's one full-time Brazilian dentist. Volunteers perform extractions, restaurations, and root canals while the hygienists provide prophylaxis, scaling, fluoride treatments and sealant. 3AO also has dental X-ray. In addition to the care they provide to the patients, volunteers provide valuable interchange with local staff, giving them an opportunity to improve their skills in this isolated region.
