The PHRC is seeking Certified Nursing Assistant volunteers to assist Public Health - Seattle & King County during an emergency in King County.

Certified Nursing Assistant volunteers will primarily assist individuals and families during an emergency by providing services in the community such as:

  • Following emergency incident command structure and Public Health - Seattle & King County protocols
  • Providing hands-on care and performing routine tasks under the supervision of nursing and medical staff
  • Assist patients with eating, dressing, and general care
  • Providing information about a disease or condition to people
  • Answering calls for help, delivering messages, serving meals, making beds, and tidying up patient areas
  • Taking temperatures, pulse rates, respiration rates, and blood pressure
  • Escorting patients to examining areas
  • Assisting other medical staff by setting up equipment, storing and moving supplies, and assisting with some procedures
  • Observing patients' physical, mental, and emotional conditions and reporting any change to the nursing or medical staff

Depending on the severity of the emergency secondary duties may include assisting with other support duties as needed.

Certified Nursing Assistant volunteers will participate in approximately 8 hours per year in orientation, training, and drills. Continuing education credits will be offered whenever possible during these 8 hours.

The mission of the PHRC is to enhance Public Health's ability to respond to public health emergencies or disasters to limit injury, illness, suffering and death.

Description

The Public Health Reserve Corps is the largest Medical Reserve Corps in Washington State. We are poised to help our community in a variety of settings during both medical emergencies and Disasters. When every minute counts the PHRC will be there to:

  • Set up, and run a temporary field hospital, emergency shelter, or medication center
  • Dispensing medications
  • Administering vaccinations
  • Providing information and support to the community
  • Conducting health screening

But when we are not in a medical emrgency or disaster, our volunteers work in teh at risk community to provide medical care, screening and referrals.
