VITAS wants to enlist your services to visit hospice Veterans living at home or in nursing homes, assisted living communities, and memory care facilities. VITAS Veteran Volunteers are Veterans seeking to share support and camaraderie with fellow Veterans. Those who are not Veterans are welcome to assist with our Veterans programs, support our Veterans community, and share the desire to remember; honor and support America's living heroes.
VITAS Veteran Volunteers help facilitate our Coffee with Comrades gatherings and participate in Veterans Day and Memorial Day programs. Veteran Volunteers assist in Pinning Recognitions of patients; can help a veteran apply for benefits or learn about available assistance; help replace lost or stolen military medals by contacting appropriate agencies; listen to life stories or record or videotape a veteran's reminiscences; telephone veterans to ask how they are doing; or educate veteran's groups about hospice services by speaking at their meetings. VITAS integrates volunteers into the hospice team by actively recruiting, training, supporting and creatively utilizing volunteers to meet patient and family needs. Volunteers are the heart of VITAS Healthcare, providing friendly, non-medical patient and family care and offering support services in the office, using their cars and from their own homes.
