Description
We are looking for 3 committed training assistants to assist with Service Dog Training with people with disabilities.
We are training for our co-trainer program that will be matching people who are trained as co-trainers to be matched with a service dog team in training to meet for additional training practice between workshops and training events. Co-Trainers will be assisting with an experienced service dog trainer.
Positive reinforcement through mark and reward methods are used. You will be learning support training for foundation behaviors, public access and some task training.
A rewarding and fun experience for those with positive dog handling experience, and make a huge difference for people enhancing their independence!
Training takes place in various places in the greater Portland, Oregon area.
Skills
- Positive Dog Handling Experience: Some experience with positive handling of a dog. Pet dog handlers and trainers encouraged to apply. Dog friendly, force-free, no prong or choke chains used.
- People Skills: Able to be open to be positive with people of various abilities and ways of accomplishing a goal. Looking at abilities of others and remain free from making assumptions. Acknowledge and support the success of yourself and others.
