ORGANIZATION: Einstein Montgomery Home Care and Hospice

Patient visitor volunteers become part of the hospice interdisciplinary team providing caring support for patients and their families. Visits can be made in the patient's home or a long term care facility where the volunteer provides support through friendly visits or giving the caregivers an opportunity for some well earned time to relax or do chores. Training is required for visitation volunteers. It involves a review of the hospice philosophy of care, instructions to better understand the thoughts and feelings of persons facing terminal illness and sessions on active listening and effective communication. Support meetings are held several times a year with opportunities for additional training and support.

Description

Einstein Montgomery Hospice is a community centered healthcare program that provides coordinated care for individuals who are in the last phases of a terminal illness so that they may live as fully and comfortably as possible. It is a comprehensive program that offers supportive services in homes or care facilities to meet the varied and changing needs of the patient and family - physical, emotional, social and spiritual.
