A road warrior is needed to drive the friendly highways and byways of Connecticut using our car and our gas. If you can spend the day on the road driving a visually impaired or blind teaching professional to and from daily appointments we need you. Once you arrive at your destination, you will assist this individual with reading signs, documents and/or computer screens, offering impressions based on visual input and other activities that would assist the legally blind.

We will provide the car and the gas you will need to have reliable transportation from your home location to our offices in Windsor. From there you will embark on your daily journeys on the highways and byways of Connecticut.

*Ideal candidate is comfortable with guide dogs - German Shepherds - though not every placement will involve a guide dog.

Times and days vary, volunteer only for those that suit you, others will fill in the gap. It would be great if you were available on weekdays between 7:30 and 5:15 though most days will be shorter than that. And remember; you can choose!

Requirements to be a great volunteer include:

  • able to lift between 20-40 lbs on occasion
  • a desire to help others;

  • a pleasant demeanor;

  • a good reading/speaking voice;

  • average reading skills;

  • organizational or planning abilities;

  • a good driving record;

  • a clear criminal history;

  • two references

  • access to a car with proof of insurance or be able to get here on the bus;
