Community Schools Collaboration is looking for Volunteer Tutors to work with youth in the SeaTac, Tukwila and White Center areas. These schools are some of the most diverse in the state, and offer an intense and rewarding experience for anyone looking to work with children, understand immigration/refugee issues, and work with language acquisition.
This position will provide assistance and support to students during after school programs. This will include homework help, as well as enrichment/recreation activities. Tutors can engage with kids using their own hobbies and interests, including sports (soccer!), crafts, and music.
Job Requirements; Minimum Qualifications:
KNOWLEDGE: Knowledge of core academic concepts; culturally competent behavior and conduct.
ABILITY: Ability to communicate effectively with students from diverse backgrounds and ethnicities; ability to work effectively with other team members; good people skills and personal judgment.
• Responsibilities: Ability to work under limited supervision following standardized practices and/or methods; leading, guiding and/or coordinating students; creating a safe leaning environment for students; attending all required staff meetings and trainings as scheduled by the Site Manager.
• Working Environment: This job is primarily performed in a clean and healthy environment. Work hours will vary from 2-8 hours per week (as set by the volunteer), primarily afternoons; includes meetings and trainings as scheduled by CSC Site Manager; reports to Site Manager/Volunteer Coordinator.
Experience:
• Must have good English reading and writing skills.
• Experience working with youth in an academic environment a plus.
• Experience working one-on-one and in small groups.
• Bilingual and/or bicultural a plus.
Education:
Successful completion of a high school diploma or GED. Experience mentoring and tutoring youth.
Two or more years in college or an AA degree in relevant discipline preferred.
Skills
- SKILLS: Proficiency in high, middle and/or elementary school math or language arts, as well as other academic subjects; ability to tutor students and lead enrichment activities as assigned. Proficiency in all academic areas preferred but not required.
