FOTY

The Atlanta Father's Day Council is looking for new committee members! The Father of the Year Council is a local group of professionals from a variety of occupations and industries located in the Atlanta community.

The Event

The American Diabetes Association hosts the annual Father of the Year Awards event each spring around Father’s Day. It is a memorable and incredibly moving experience for honorees, their families, friends, and business associates. The Association partners with the national Father’s Day Council to recognize exceptional fathers who have demonstrated the ability to balance their personal lives with successful careers, to serve as a role model for their children, and to help make a positive difference in their community. The purpose of the evening is to raise funds to support life-saving research, community education programs and advocacy initiatives. Since 2000, this event has raised more than $36 million nationally, benefiting the ADA in support of its mission.

The Mission

The mission of the American Diabetes Association is to prevent and cure diabetes and to improve the lives of all people affected by diabetes. There are 29.1 million children and adults in the United States living with diabetes. In Georgia, over one million individuals are living with diabetes. Another 700,000 have diabetes and do not know it. Diabetes is the number one cause of blindness, lower limb amputation, kidney failure, heart disease and stroke, and is the 4th leading cause of death. Although there is no cure for diabetes at this time, with proper management, diabetes can be controlled. Proudly, the American Diabetes Association is the only non-profit organization dedicated to providing research, information and advocacy to all people with diabetes including Type 1 (Juvenile), Type 2, Gestational and pre-diabetes.
