Tutor Somali Refugee Youth In South Seattle
Organization |
Description
What: Tutor Somali Refugee youth with the Somali Community Services Coalition (SCSC) at the Creston Point Apartment Complex in South Seattle! The majority of the residents of the Creston Point Apartment Complex are Somali. In the afternoon, Somali youth get extra help with their school work through an on site youth based education program. Help these students catch up and reach their potential by tutoring them in a supportive environment. Join the Creston Point Education Team.
When: Mondays and Wednesday 4-6 pm
Why: There are more than 25,000 Somalis in King County, many of whom live in the southern region of the county. Somali youth comprise a significant portion of students in the Tukwila School District and many of these students came to the United States after living for years in refugee camps, where they did not have access to educational opportunities. As a result, they often struggle in school.
