CHP Greenhouse

Established in 1987 by the Thomas Jefferson Foundation, the Center for Historic Plants is charged with collecting, preserving, and distributing historic plant varieties. The program focuses on Thomas Jefferson's horticultural interests, but covers the broad history of plants cultivated in America including varieties documented through the nineteenth century. The Center (CHP) is located on Tufton Farm, one of Jefferson's quarter farms, less than 1.5 miles from the entrance to Monticello.

CHP is looking for volunteers to assist with general horticultual duties and maintenance, as well as seed packaging, potting, and plant propogation. Volunteers may also assist with educational programs and special events at CHP, such as the Open House in May.

Shifts are flexible, but in general, they are looking for volunteers between the hours of 9-4, M-F.
