Way Back Inn is a non-profit founded in 1991 by Boeing employees in Renton, WA. Way Back Inn has assisted over 1,800 families on a journey out of homelessness. Our mission is to encourage children to thrive by empowering families to create a stable future and end their cycle of homelessness. Way Back Inn's vision is that every child and family have a secure place to call home and the resources to reach their full potential. We also strive to help families remain in their own homes by offering utility & rental assistance.

As a grassroots organization, Way Back Inn is supported by our dedicated volunteers with only 2 staff positions. The volunteer Board Member role is instrumental in the organization's overall management and operations. We currently have several volunteer Board Member roles open. Please note: Way Back Inn Board is not a consulting board - we are looking for volunteers that are comfortable being hands-on in supporting the organization, executing ideas, initiatives, and projects.

Mission Statement

Description

Way Back Inn is a 501(c)(3) non-profit agency (91-1548418) founded in Renton, WA. Since 1991, Way Back Inn has provided homes to families with young children that are experiencing homelessness in South King County. Our units provide families with a warm and comfortable home so that their children may have a safe place to sleep at night, a yard in which to play and a nearby school to attend. WBI operates 9 units located in South King County: Renton (6) and Tukwila (3). We are primarily a volunteer-run agency, with 2 staff members.

Way Back Inn provides transitional housing and covers all of the expenses. We do not charge rent or for general maintenance costs needed to operate the homes. This gives the parent(s) time to find work, if they aren't already employed, and to save first and last months' rent in order to apply for permanent housing. The families must have clearly defined goals and be willing to work towards achieving them. Parents must have a plan to regain self-sufficiency and be actively working with a case manager to accomplish that plan.
