ORGANIZATION: VOLUNTEER CENTER OF RACINE COUNTY, INC.

"The time is always right to do what is right." ~Martin Luther King, Jr.

For the time period ending June 30, 2009, the Racine County Food Bank reports pounds of food donated were down by 15 percent from the previous year. Individuals served surged up by 4 percent to 59,620.

And that was in June.

Unemployment for the City of Racine hovers around 15 percent and for the county, it is 10 percent. Executive Director of the Racine County Food Bank Dan Taivalkoski states, "We are serving more people with less food."

Now is the time to help.

For the next two Mondays, January 11 and 18, the Volunteer Center of Racine County will be hosting a curb side food drive in remembrance of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and his commitment to fight poverty. From 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., volunteers will take your donations of the "super six" or any other non-perishable food items at 6216 Washington Avenue. Food will be distributed to hundreds of hungry households in Racine County. The six include

  • Canned fruit
  • Peanut butter
  • Tuna
  • Canned meats
  • Beef stew
  • Canned pasta WITH MEAT

Drive up, drop off, and drive away knowing you have helped.

"If you can't feed a hundred people, then feed just one." ~Mother Teresa
