  • 70 people are interested

My Sisters' Place is looking for dedicated volunteers who desire to make an important contribution to victims of domestic violence. Sisters-in-Law are recruited from a cross section of the community and herald from all professions and backgrounds. Some volunteers/advocates are themselves survivors of domestic violence with personal experience in the civil, family and criminal court systems willing to help others navigate the judicial system.

Sisters-in-Law support our clients, survivors of domestic violence, who need someone to go with them to court and other necessary appointments on their road to safety, self-determination and justice.

Mission Statement

My Sisters' Place strives to engage each member of society in our work to end domestic violence, so that all relationships can embrace the principles of respect, equality and peacefulness. Since 1978, we have advanced this mission throughout the Westchester County region with advocacy, community education and services to those harmed by domestic violence.

Through advocacy, we act as a force for social change in law and public policy.

Through community education, we challenge public perceptions of intimate violence and the social inequities that give rise to it and we promote prevention with a special emphasis on our youth.

Through direct services, we support the abused, primarily women and their children, in seeking safety, self-determination and justice.

Description

For more than 32 years, My Sisters' Place (MSP) has worked to end violence in intimate relationships and combat the effects of domestic violence and human trafficking on survivors and children throughout Westchester County. MSP is a cutting edge leader and resource in the field of domestic violence and human trafficking advocacy, shelter and legal services, and education and prevention.

MSP brings a holistic approach to addressing the many and varied needs of domestic violence survivors and the root causes of family violence, which is the use or threat of force by one person in any intimate relationship to dominate and control the other person.
