Volunteers in the Wildlife Care Department will assist with the cleaning, diet preparation and possible handling onf raptors and shorebirds admitted into our rehabilitation hospital. This program takes place at our SeaLab facility and assists our Wildlife Care Specialist in the day to day duties of caring for sick and injured wildlife.

  • Understand and follow Standard Operating Procedures in work areas.

  • Clean cages, portable kennels, outside pelican pools, flight cages, and mews.

  • Assist with laundry: wash/dry/fold.

  • Clean, maintain and store utensils and equipment used to feed and care for animals.

  • Assist in the preparation of food, vitamins and medication for animals as directed, including cutting up frozen rats and fish.

  • Maintain and clean rehabilitation hospital and SeaLab rehabilitation areas.

  • Assist in handling birds including waterfowl, shorebirds, and raptors.

  • Assist in maintaining feeding and medical logs.

  • Assist with medical procedures (bandage changes, injections, tube feeding, etc.).

  • Observe animal behavior and report unusual/abnormal behavior to supervisor.

  • Work under the guidelines as stated in TSA’s federal and state permits.
  • Comply with safety policies, practices, and procedures. Report all unsafe work practices to supervisor and/or Human Resources.

  • Participate in proactive team efforts to achieve department and company goals.

  • Provide leadership to others through example and sharing of knowledge and skills.

  • Provide exceptional guest service.

Description
