Mission Statement
Habitat for Humanity of Greater Lowell (HFHGL), works in partnership with corporations, individual volunteers, local community groups and faith based organizations to develop communities for people in need by building and renovating simple, energy efficient affordable homes. We also provide critical home repairs to low-income homeowners with a focus on seniors, veterans and families. Habitat believes in providing a hand up not a handout to end the cycle of poverty housing. We work in Bedford, Billerica, Burlington, Carlisle, Chelmsford, Concord, Dracut, Dunstable, Lowell, No Reading, Reading, Tewksbury, Tyngsboro, Wakefield, Westford, and Wilmington.
Description
Through volunteer labor and donations of money and materials, HFHGL builds and rehabilitates simple, decent houses with the help of the homeowner (partner) families. Habitat houses are sold to partner families at no profit, financed with affordable, no-interest mortgage. Partner families are also required to help build their home. They must commit to building up to 450 hours. The homeowners' monthly mortgage payments are used to build more houses. We also help low-income homeowners who are in need of repairs that will allow them to remain living safely in their own homes.
