Head Start is a federally funded program for preschool children between three and four years old from low-income families. The children who attend Head Start participate in a variety of educational activities. They also receive free medical and dental services, have healthy meals and snacks, and enjoy playing indoors and outdoors in a safe environment. The Guidance Center houses and operates one of the largest Head Start programs in Michigan (10 sites).

Assist the teacher and assistant teacher with everyday classroom activities. That includes helping serve the children breakfast, snacks and lunch. Cleaning up with the children. Helping with school work, doing special projects; including arts and crafts and/or reading.

Serving Sites: Belleville, Ecorse, Flat Rock, Lincoln Park, River Rouge, Romulus, Southgate, Sumpter Township, and Taylor

Part-Day Head Start and Full-Day Head Start times vary at each location. Estimated durations:

PD: 8-12, 12:30-4:30. FD: 9-3.

The Guidance Center (formerly Downriver Guidance Clinic) is an innovative leader in providing quality behavioral health, substance abuse, and community outreach services to children, adults, and families. The private, nonprofit agency is at the forefront of creating new prevention and educational models to help children and families deal with mental health and substance abuse issues and has a history of responding to the ever-changing needs of the people of Downriver and metropolitan Detroit communities.
