The Long-Term Care Volunteer Ombudsman will be expected to do routine access visits and participate in Resident Rights Training. The Volunteer will participate in resident council meetings and explain the ombudsman program and do activities with the resident council. In addition, volunteers will assist with taking complaints from residents and reporting them back to Senior Connections’ Ombudsman Volunteer Coordinator. Most importantly the volunteers will advocate for residents, and educate residents on their rights, so that they can advocate for themselves. The position requires 36 hours of initial training, beginning in November 2023. More details available. Background check and clean record are required.

As an Area Agency on Aging, our goal is to serve as a primary resource in the community for seniors and caregivers who need assistance with planning for and making decisions later in life. Established in 1973, we are part of a nationwide network of Area Agencies on Aging that provide information, advocacy and direct services to seniors and their families.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Background Check
  • Must be at least 21
  • Orientation or Training
  • 4 hours a week for at least one year during the business day, 9-5 Mon through Fri. Plus 1.5 hours each month to complete activity reports. And at least 18 hours of continuing education (virtual and/or in-person) throughout the year after training.
  • Must be at least 21, provide references, be able to get from place to place; not be employed by or have financial gain related to a long-term care facility or conflict of interest; be able to follow LTCO Program policies, be non-judgmental.
