Aquatics Volunteer - National MS Society

Description

The National MS Society, Greater Northwest Chapter seeks a volunteer to assist aquatics program participants who require help to actively engage in activities and fully enjoy the experience of the program along side other participants.

Responsibilities may include: welcoming new participants into the pool; set-up equipment; assist with chairs & step transfers into and out of the pool; set-up a client with equipment; assist them with participation in class at a level that is consistent with their condition while being encouraging and supportive; observe participants response to the water and exercise and provide feedback to the instructor; and passive ROM and/or stretching one-on-one as needed.

Opportunity available:

*Shoreline Pool: Wednesdays, 10:00 - 11:00 a.m.

Skills

  • good people skills, confident swimmer: Good people skills; able & confident swimmer; able to interact easily with people who have different cognitive levels; knowledge of or willingness to learn about parameters of physically challenged individuals and adapting their exercises; have a good back or be physically able to help with transfers; is enthusiastic about exercise, as a role model to inspire people to continue to participate and can make a commitment to the day/time of class.
