Youth United Adult Mentors
Organization |
Description
Youth United, a Habitat for Humanity International program, mobilizes young people, ages 5 to 25, to fully fund and build a house with their local Habitat affiliate. Supported by Habitat Bucks, Youth United brings young people together from throughout a community to sponsor and build a Habitat home. Students learn leadership and teamwork skills, and gain a better understanding of their community and poverty housing. All students are engaged in fund raising, education and advocacy activities, while those over 16 help with the actual house construction.
The four goals of Youth United are to:
• Involve youth in their community.
• Engage youth in Habitat's mission of eliminating poverty housing.
• Foster teamwork among diverse groups of youth.
• Develop youth leaders.
Adult volunteers are needed to serve on the Youth United Committee to mentor Habitat's youth leaders. Volunteers will also help promote the program to school groups, Scout Troops and community youth organizations throughout the year. The committee meets monthly in Chalfont.
