Dr. Seuss @ Sam Carlos Park

We need volunteers 21 and up to help teach character education lessons/activities in our local community schools for Pre-K through the 12th grade. We are partnering with 44 schools this year servicing over 20,000 students. You can choose a school around your geographic area and cultivate a relationship with the school administration and staff by becoming a volunteer in the school of your choice. We supply the books and resources that you will need to teach character education to students. We also need guest speakers to speak to students and mentor and shadow them in specific career fields. We have an Exploring Program which is a Career Oriented Program for students from 14-20 year olds. We have 14 Exploring Posts and 4 Exploring Clubs in Middle Schools in Lee and Hendry County servicing youth. We need adult advisors for the Exploring Committee. We are looking for volunteers to be members on our Learning for Life Board and business sponsors for our events. To become a volunteer you will need to register with the Southwest Florida Council.

Description

Learning for Life was developed to meet the critical needs of our nation's schools and communities.

Learning for Life is an educational program designed to meet the needs of youth and schools. It helps youth meet the challenge of growing up by teaching character and good decision-making skills and then linking those skills to the real world. Developed by professional educators and child-development experts, the Learning for Life curriculum has thee basic components: school-based learning, connecting activities, and work-based learning. Combined, these components provide a structure through which youth learn the value of respect and responsibility while discovering a world of career opportunities.

Youth today have more needs than ever before. We live in a changing world that has seen the disintegration of many families, rampant drug abuse, extreme violence, and moral decay. Young people these days are thrown into a hothouse of competition and social change that tests their decision-making skills.

Learning for Life is designed to support schools and other youth-serving organizations, such as home schooling in their efforts toward preparing youth to successfully handle the complexities of today's society and to enhance their self-confidence, motivation, and self-worth. Learning for Life also helps youth develop social and life skills, assists in character development, and helps them formulate positive personal values. It prepares youth to make ethical decisions that will help them achieve their full potential. Learning for Life enhances teacher capacity and increases youth learning!
