The support group leader's principal role is to encourage participants to share feelings, concerns, and information in a safe, non-judgmental setting. She/he is not expected to be a psychologist, lawyer, or social worker.
The support group leader's role is to be:
- A helper rather than an expert
- An encourager rather than a leader
- A sharer of mutual concerns rather than a problem solver
