Hand washing is the single most valuable tool in disease prevention; therefore the American Red Cross of Greater Indianapolis' Scrubby Bear presentation is an invaluable tool in keeping children healthy. The Scrubby Bear program is a national program new to Indianapolis which has been extremely popular due to the cases of H1N1 on the rise. This fun, short 20-25 minute presentation teaches kindergarten and first graders proper hand washing technique as well as the importance of hand washing in staying healthy. Volunteers will be provided with training, including a detailed script, and all the materials necessary before going into area classrooms.

Description

Thanks to the generosity of our volunteers, financial supporters and community partners, the American Red Cross of Greater Indianapolis reaches one in three households in Central Indiana each year by:

  • Providing immediate relief to people affected by disasters and facilitating their long-term recovery;
  • Reducing the community's vulnerability to disaster through planning and education;
  • Empowering people with lifesaving training in first aid, CPR, automated external defibrillator (AED), universal precautions and water safety;
  • Giving first aid care at community events;
  • Serving military families by providing emergency communications and other support to members of the U.S. Armed Forces and their loved ones; and
  • Meeting special community needs through transportation services and programs for seniors and youth.
