Speak for our dogs and cats: Be the voice of our furry friends to meet and greet potential adopters at local PetSmart stores. PetSmart has teamed up with PAWS and invites us to a couple of their stores to showcase the animals in our system. These adopt-a-thons are generally on the weekends. We ask our fosters to bring their dogs, puppies, cats and kittens to be introduced to the public in hopes of finding each a permanent home.

We need volunteers to handle the animals, talk to the public & pass out literature. These events are usually from 11am to 4pm, with 2 shifts of helpers, although some have such a great time, they stay the whole day.

The PetSmart stores we visit are located in Aurora and Mayfield Hts. If screeners are present, the animals can be adopted on site. There is not a more moving moment than seeing a homeless animal walk out with its new family! It's kind of a bitter-sweet experience for all of us, especially the fosters.

Each foster provides a description of the animals at the event, i.e. age, breed, sex, and any background or history that is known. They also let you know if their dogs/cats are good with other animals, with people or have certain issues. That is the upside of getting a pet through a foster-based organization. We know their personalities & good points; we also know if the animal has any issues.

All of our animals offered for adoption are spayed/neutered and have received their vaccinations.

IT'S AMAZING HOW FORGIVING AN ABUSED ANIMAL CAN BE WHEN YOU SHOW IT A LITTLE KINDNESS!

Mission Statement

Since 1976 PAWS Ohio has filled a vacuum with our foster based mission to rescue stray and abused animals in Northeast Ohio. PAWS Ohio brings these needy animals into private foster homes providing them with medical care and a safe environment . Once healthy and altered our foster pets are placed up for adoption and placed into their forever home.

Description

The Public Animal Welfare Society, Inc. (PAWS) was founded in 1976. We are a 501(3)(c) non-profit, no-kill organization considered to be one of Ohio’s most reputable long-standing cat and dog humane rescue groups. Our mission is to rescue, foster, and adopt companion animals in Northeastern Ohio.

Additionally, we provide medical treatment for injured or sick animals we take in as well as spaying and neutering services. We are also deeply involved in Animal Welfare Legislation and our Executive Director, Amy Beichler, was the driving force behind the passage of Goddard's Law in 2016 which made it a felony to abuse companion animals in Ohio.

We are a volunteer based organization governed by a Board of Volunteer Directors. PAWS is managed by an Executive Director and an Associate Director who control the day-to-day operations. Under the Executive Director, we have volunteer coordinators that manage a number of specific departments within PAWS, as well as a host of dedicated volunteers who give their time and efforts to PAWS-related tasks and events.
