Assistant Stage Manager/Deputy Stage Manager

ORGANIZATION: Bellevue Youth Theatre

  • 3 people are interested

Bellevue Youth Theatre is in need of dedicated individuals to add to our pool of Assistant Stage Managers. We can begin to train immediately, but our 2010 Winter/Spring season really needs support. Volunteers with experience in youth recreation are a real asset, especially if you are looking for an organization with which you will make a long-term, regular commitment. However, we can train anyone willing to make the time commitment.

Each show has a staff Stage Manager whose job it is to know everything about the production, give that information to all the designers, the director, and other support people, and also be the program assistant--helping the cast to have fun while rehearsing. Since they have so much to do, they need lots of support from hardworking, funloving, dedicated volunteers. Work alongside the staff Stage Manager as part of the recreation leadership team to run rehearsals, make notes on the production, organize and communicate information.

Assistant Stage Managers will help the Stage Manager to run warmups, keep the participants focused and/or busy during rehearsals with activities, and organize information. Assistant Stage Managers will attend 2-3 rehearsals/week (for a total of approximately 6 hours/week).

Deputy Stage Managers will attend 4-5 rehearsals/week (for a total of approximately 10 hours/week). Deputy Stage Managers will attend the entire final week of rehearsals and all performances and support the Stage Manager during the production time with communicating information, and making sure the productions go smoothly. The goal is that they will become as well versed on the show as the Stage Manage and be able to relieve the Stage Manager to engage in recreational activities with the participants during rehearsals.

NOT ALL SHOWS run the entire season. The final performance date will be the last day of the position. Shows rehearse from between 5 weeks-11 weeks. If you're interesed in this, please contact us for details and we will try to tailor the position to your schedule, especially for those individuals who think they might like to make a long-term (more than one season) commitment to BYT.
