Van Nuys-based cat rescue organization seeks volunteer adoption counselor to assist adoption coordinator at weekend events. He or she helps evaluate potential adopters and serves as an ambassador for Heaven on Earth to members of the public. The adoption counselor also assists with setup and breakdown of the event. You must be able to lift 30 lbs. and stand for a period of 4 hours.

Responsibilities:

1) Attend adoption events 1 Saturday a month minimum on a long-term basis

2) Assist potential adopters by explaining adoption process and providing information about the cats

3) Assist and monitor potential adopters when they are handling cats

4) Answer phone and respond to callers' questions if adoption coordinator is not available

5) Assist in display set-up before event and help break down display after event. Requires lifting 30 pounds.

6) Provide information about Heaven on Earth, hand out flyers, respond to inquiries, etc.

Heaven on Earth, founded in 2000, envisions the day when there are no more homeless pets in the Los Angeles area. Our programs and events are aimed to rescue cats most at risk for euthanasia and to raise awareness in Los Angeles and beyond.

Description

We fulfill our mission by:

  • The Perry MacFarlane Sanctuary, our Cage-free, No-kill Facility. Cats who are with us temporarily awaiting adoption as well as longer-term residents receive quality care and lots of love at our North Hollywood sanctuary, known affectionately as Perry’s Place.
  • Adoption Program. Mobile adoption events are held each weekend at several area pet stores, and we host adoption visits at Perry’s Place as well.
  • SpayShip Transport Service. Working in conjunction with local spay/neuter clinics, SpayShip provides free transportation and trapping assistance for community and companion cats in targeted San Fernando Valley zip codes.
  • Community Outreach. Referral, guidance, support and humane education are central to everything we do, and while we cannot rescue every cat in need, we do respond to each inquiry we receive from people seeking to help them.
