Five Easy Ways to Create Awareness in Your Community
What does public awareness mean to the pancreatic cancer community? Raising awareness can move federal research dollars and change public policy. It can lead to more funds raised for research and patient services. Awareness of PanCAN's PALS program can give hope to those currently battling the disease.
1. Join a Pancreatic Cancer Action Network Affiliate
PanCAN Affiliates are always looking for volunteers to fill a variety of roles. By working with other volunteers, you are joining a movement to create awareness and educate your community about pancreatic cancer. Click here to find your local affiliate. If there is no affiliate in your area, please contact our staff to find out how to get involved.
2. Attend a Pancreatic Cancer Action Network Event
Click here to see the PanCAN calendar of events.
3. Distribute PanCAN Information to Healthcare Professionals
Help us reach patients and caregivers in your area by distributing our PALS brochures and packets to local health professionals and cancer organizations. Placing PALS materials in oncologists' offices, hospitals, clinics and cancer organizations in your area helps us get the word out to caregivers and survivors about the patient services PanCAN offers. Click here to read more about the PALS program. Contact us if you'd like to distribute packets to healthcare professionals.
4. Tell Your Member of Congress that Pancreatic Cancer Research is Important to You
The federal government is the largest source of funding for biomedical research in the United States, and is capable of moving research forward faster than any organization. Make sure that your representatives know that cancer research funding is a priority. You can do this by visiting your local Member of Congress, organizing a letter-writing campaign, and responding to PanCAN's calls to action. Visit the Take Action Now portion of our website to see how you can participate.
Local media can send your message to an entire community at once, so we encourage you to share your story with the press. You can also talk about PanCAN's no-cost patient services or upcoming events in your area. We can even send the PanCAN Public Service Announcement (PSA) to radio stations willing to broadcast it. Contact us to get started.
