Volunteers are needed to teach financial literacy classes in Houston and the greater Houston area. Our ideal volunteer possesses basic knowledge of personal finance, is passionate about educating low income women, and is seeking to empower others.
Our curriculums, created by the FDIC and the U.S. Department of Labor, offer instructor guides which we pair with tips from our most experienced volunteers. Throughout the year we offer events and workshops to improve your skills as an instructor and meet fellow volunteers.
Our financial education classes are:
- Offered in English or Spanish
- 60 or 90 minutes in length
- Hosted at social service agencies in 38 of Houston’s zip codes
- Primarily offered weekdays between 8am and 6pm
- Cover topics such as banking, budgeting, saving, and credit management
Class audiences include:
- First year college students
- Families in financial crises
- Survivors of domestic abuse
- Female veterans
- Refugee immigrants
- Incarcerated women transitioning to re-entry
Volunteers select the location, time, and topic of the classes they would like to teach from a list of classes on our online calendar. With a minimum of teaching just three classes a year, the power to choose when and where you teach, and all course materials provided to instructors, volunteering is both gratifying and convenient!

Mission Statement
Mission The Women's Resource of Greater Houston provides free financial education and research so that women and girls have the knowledge they need to make sound financial decisions and improve their lives.
Description
Founded in 1990 as the Greater Houston Women's Foundation, The Women's Resource of Greater Houston provides free financial education and research so that women and girls have the knowledge they need to make sound financial decisions and improve their lives.
We accomplish this mission by recruiting volunteer instructors to teach free personal finance classes; providing leadership and life skills education to at-risk 9 th and 10 th grade girls through Project LEAD (Leadership Education and Development); and sponsoring research on issues critical to women, girls and families.
The Women's Resource annually teaches free financial education classes to over 6,000low income and financially illiterate Houstonians in more than 45 zip codes. Using the acclaimed FDIC Money Smart(tm) and Department of Labor Wi$e Up(tm) curricula, we help those outside the financial mainstream enhance their money skills, create positive banking relationships, build financial knowledge and confidence, and use banking services effectively. Each class participant receives a take home workbook that includes all material discussed in class, other tools they can use once they are home, and a directory of community resources. To date, we have taught over 18.000 Houstonians.
