Alphapointe Association for the Blind and The Wolfner Library are in need of volunteers to record, review and edit books for people who are blind or visually impaired. Readers and reviewers will work in tandem to record fiction, non-fiction, textbooks and other printed material for the over 12,000 people throughout Missouri who are blind and subscribe to the free service provided by The Wolfner Library in Jefferson City.
Each year, the Library of Congress produces books and magazines in alternate formats for persons unable to read standard print. As part of a national network, the Wolfner Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped circulates these materials statewide and supplements the collect with books produced by volunteers. The Library of Congress records material of national importance; the Wolfner Library records books of particular interest to Missourians. Alphapointe is partnering with the Wolfner Library to provide volunteers in the Kansas City area, as well as studio recording space in one of two booths at the Alphapointe Life Skills campus.
Those interested in volunteering for this new program should plan to attend one of two informational meetings on September 24 th, either at 10 a.m. at the Alphapointe campus or at 6:30 p.m. at the Waldo Branch of the KC Public Library.More opportunities with Alphapointe Association for the Blind
