Mission Statement
The Edward-Dean Museum of Decorative Arts consists buildings, grounds,and collection which reflect the subjective perspective of the Museum's builders and donors, Edward Eberle, and Dean Stout. The architectural setting and collection exihibitions demonstrate the donors' personal insight into 20th century use of objects designed and manufactured in Europe and Asia During the 17th to 19th centuries. The arangement of the rooms and collections create a home-like atmosphere where visitors have the opportunity to experience, first hand, the tengible evidence and ambiance of time period which has an unprecendented influence on modren American life. The Edward-Dean Museum shares two goals, common to all museums: 1. To develop study and preserve a permanent collection of objects. The Museum's permanent collection consist primarily of 17th through 19th century European and Asian Decorative Arts, including furniture, ceramics, glass, textiles, paintings, sculpture, works on paper, metalwork, enamels and accessories. 2. To provide a setting that inspires visitors to discover and learn about the people, events, and cultures, the collections represent; and to provide a setting where artistic and historical subjects not represented specifically in the collection can be explored through temporary exhibits and activities.
