Organized by the non-profit Foundation for the National Institutes of Health, in conjunction with supporters of its Dean R. O'Neill Renal Cell Cancer Research Fund (www.renalcellcancer.org), this 10K race and 2-mile walk will take place in West Potomac Park in Washington, DC, on October, 6, 2019. Proceeds from the race will promote renal cell cancer research at NIH by supporting the Dean R. O'Neill Renal Cell Cancer Research Fellowship. www.boorunforlife.com
Volunteers are needed for race course management, to "man" water and refreshment stations and the lost and found, to help with check-in, distribution of sponsor bags and at the awards ceremony.
Volunteers receive an official race t-shirt, light refreshments and sponsor donations.
West Potomac Park-Hains Point is located across the street from the Lincoln Memorial in Washington DC. The Start/Finish line for Boo! Run for Life, is near the intersection of Ohio Dr SW and West Basin Drive SW. The following link shows a map to the location of the Start/Finish line: http://BooRunforLifeStartFinishLine.notlong.com (You can use this link to map driving directions.)
All volunteers are requested to be on-site by 6:00am, before Ohio Drive SW is closed by the U.S. Park Police. Volunteers who arrive BEFORE 6:00am can enjoy VIP parking very close to the race staging area, on West Basin Dr. Here's a map showing the parking along West Basin Dr, and the short walk to the staging area. http://www.mapmyrun.com/run/united-states/dc/washington/1011702667
Please note, should a volunteer arrive after 6:00am, the parking instructions change. Ohio Drive SW needs to be closed promptly at 6:00am to begin preparations for the timing system and truss installation. Therefore, should a volunteer arrive after 6:00am -- and we hope no one does -- you should park as follows: There is a modest parking lot bordering the Tidal Basin off of Maine Ave SW near the intersection of Maine Ave SW and Independence Ave SW. From here, the Start/Finish line is a short walk on Independence Ave towards the Lincoln Memorial. Here's a map showing the parking lot and the short walk to the Start/Finish line: http://www.mapmyrun.com/walk/united-states/dc/washington/351260451
Or, volunteers can park in lots A, B, or C under I-395. To enter these lots, cars must enter Ohio Dr via East Basin Dr on the far side of the Jefferson memorial. The officers at the intersection of Ohio Dr and East Basin Dr will allow cars to turn into lots A, B, or C from East Basin Dr. Here's a map showing the locations of parking lots A, B, and C, and the short walk to the Start/ Finish line: http://www.mapmyrun.com/walk/united-states/dc/washington/138267564

Mission Statement
The Dean R. O'Neill Renal Cell Cancer Research Fund's mission is to support renal cell cancer research at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda Maryland and awareness to the general public.
Description
The Dean R. O'Neill Renal Cell Cancer Research Fund works with the National Institues of Health and the National Heart, Blood and Lung Institute to research cures for renal cell carcinoma, commonly called kidney cancer. The fund sponsors a post doctural fellow to work with Dr. Richard Childs and his staff of doctors to explore treatments such as allogeneic stem cell transplants, vaccine therapy and drug treatments. Most common in males over age 40, renal cell cancer is on the rise in the United States. Nearly 30,000 people are diagnosed with kidney cancer each year, half of whom develop metastatic disease. Important genetic mechanisms that lead to the development of kidney cancer were discovered by scientists in the NHLBI's Hermatology lab that was supported by the Dean R. O'Neill Renal Cell Cancer Research Fund.
