FREE running Event for HIVers, cancer survivors and friends

Organization |
Description
The Richard M. Brodsky Foundation will be sponsoring 6 free 5K Running / Walking Events for people living with HIV, cancer and their friends in the next 12 months. The first Event will occur in Oceanside Park, Oceanside Park, New York on October 25th. Future Event locations to be determined but will be in the Long Island, New York area. The Event will not be advertised nor will their be race day registration as the Foundation cannot afford to have more than 100 participants. We do however plan on growing if we can get grants and / or sponsors. To learn more about the Event, please visit www.5kaidscancer.com and click on FREE RUNNING EVENTS.
My name is Richard Brodsky and I was diagnosed HIV-positive 12 years ago. Unrelated to my HIV, I was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer almost 7 years ago. I'm still running marathons and local 5K Events on Long Island with my wife, Jodi. We will be celebrating our 30th anniversary in Mach 2010. We are both passionate about running and I attribute running and the camaraderie of running at local 5K Events and access to the AIDS medicine to saving my life. The Foundation also sponsors a World AIDS Marathon in Kisumu, Kenya on World AIDS Day every year, www.worldaidsmarathon.com.
The reason my Foundation sponsors the World AIDS Marathon and local 5K Running / Walking Events is to raise global awareness that people living with HIV or cancer are not on death's doorsteps. In America, if AIDS and cancer survivors could get some physical exercise assuming their doctor approves, these people should be able to live a longer, healthier life. We will require a team of two people to sign up for the FREE Running / Walking Event; one person will be living with HIV or cancer and the other person will be HIV and cancer free. We will not disclose which person is healthy and which person is not unless the team does not object. If you would like to participate in the Event, please write to me at richardm.brodsky@gmail.com. You will need to tell me if you need a partner who is living with HIV or cancer or someone who is healthy. Hopefully you can sign up as a team and I will send you an application. If you sign up by October 12th you will receive a FREE Event T-shirt with your name on the shirt. We will need a lot of help to make these Events successful.
