You can help serve the community and gain valuable skills in the field of law enforcement.

Become a Member of Explorer Post 449!

The Orange County Sheriff Explorer Program is a volunteer organization that helps instill the qualities of pride, self-esteem and honor into young men and women interested in the field of law enforcement. Explorer Post 449 was created in January 1959 as the first law enforcement Exploring program in the nation.

Through Exploring, young people develop leadership skills and participate in a variety of activities that assist Sheriff Deputies and help serve the community.

Explorers attend weekly meetings held throughout Orange County and donate a minimum of ten service hours per month. Explorers receive training in drill, report writing, patrol procedures, finger printing, crowd control, traffic control, accident investigation, form completion, building searches, bomb threats, felony car stops and criminal law. They attend a week long law enforcement academy that includes classroom instruction and rigorous physical training.

Applicants for the Sheriff Explorer Program must be between 14 and 20 years of age and in good physical condition. They are required to have a minimum 2.0 GPA and be in good standing with school administrators. They may not have any serious arrests or convictions, and cannot be on Probation when accepted into the program.
