Volunteering at the Library

BOOK SHELVER

Position Overview: Do you love to organize, alphabetize and put things in order? We invite you to make a difference at the many locations that need assistance with shelving books.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Sort and organize returned materials into appropriate shelving categories.
  2. Interfile organized book cart materials into appropriate collections. Separate and shelve any improperly filed materials into correct locations.
  3. Scan materials on shelf to maintain proper organization of shelved library materials for maximum accessibility.

Training & Support Provided:

  1. Orientation to the library and its collections.
  2. Review of Dewey Decimal System and fiction shelving system.
  3. Review of correct safety techniques.

Benefits of Volunteering:

KCL aspires to build a supportive network of families from our communities. Volunteers will provide a service to the library by insuring correct and timely placement of materials within the library while learning time management & personable life-long skills.

Time Commitment: Two (2) hours weekly

Length of Commitment: Flexible
