Volunteers work with SCDNR to deploy oyster shell on selected shorelines. Oysters recruit to shell and form living reef. 10-50 volunteers needed per project, but can sign-up for events as an individual. Adopt a specific site or join us on planned events. Good project for scout troops, school groups, etc. Reef building begins in March and continues through July. Check our calendar for dates http://score.dnr.sc.gov

Description
South Carolina Oyster Recycling and Enhancement (SCORE) is a community-based habitat restoration and monitoring program of the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources. Oysters are critical to South Carolina’s ecology, economy, and culture, and oyster shell is the best resource to sustain oyster populations. Recycled shell is placed back onto the shoreline either during large scale plantings or volunteer-based oyster reef builds. SCORE works with over 4,000 volunteers every year in a variety of ways to help with these endeavors.
