As an equestrian aide you would provide the care necessary to keep the horses at Ivey Ranch healthy and happy. Spend time interacting with other people and horses while grooming, tacking, and assisting with turn-outs. Help with the upkeep of the stables and maintain tack for the riders. You can also work directly with an Instructor, rider and horse to create a meaningful and safe experience for a rider with special needs. With volunteers leading and walking beside horses, riders can improve muscle strength, balance, self-esteem and more.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Grooming and bathing horses
  2. Cleaning stalls and arenas
  3. Exercising and turning out horses
  4. Leading horses or walking beside horses for rider support

Time Requirements:

Six-week commitment (1 day a week); shifts are approximately two-hours in length

9:00AM- 11:00AM Tuesday and Thursday

2PM-4PM & 4PM-6PM Tuesday thru Friday

7:30AM-9:30AM & 9:15AM-11:30AM Saturday

Mission Statement

Ivey Ranch Park is dedicated to encourage the interaction of those of all ages, with and without disabilities, by providing educational and recreational activities. Since 1983 we have served children and adults with disabilities but will not exclude the able-bodied, since integration, inclusion and interaction are important components of our program. Serving over 200 individuals a month, our essential goals are: community integration and participation, personal choice, self-respect and respect for others, competence and self reliance. Currently over two thirds of our clients here at Ivey Ranch Park have moderate to severe disabilities which include behavioral disorders, genetic disorders, and disabilities caused by accident or trauma. School age children come for after school, summer and off-track care. The Center also operates an equestrian facility, in-home respite services, and a Community Garden.

Description

Equestrian Volunteers: assist with able-bodied and therapeutic horseback riding lessons, grooming, tacking, and barn chores. Open to adults and children ages 9+. Requires an on-going commitment of once a week for 5-weeks, equestrian volunteer application and attending a volunteer orientation.

Grounds Volunteers: assist with projects around our 12-acre property: gardening, landscaping, cleanups, painting etc. Great for individuals or groups small or large. Can be one-time projects or an on-going commitment. Open to adults and children ages 9+, minors must have adult present. Requires a waiver of liability.

Childcare Volunteers: assist in our on-site childcare center for children and young adults with disabilities. Tasks include: play games, music, art projects, indoor and outdoor activities, assisting with snack etc. Open to adults 18+. Requires an on-going commitment, childcare volunteer application and negative TB Test result.
