ORGANIZATION: National MS Society - Gateway Area Chapter

Course Marshals are placed at street intersections along the routes of our events. This is to provide an additional safety component for the runngers/walkers/cyclists to keep the event safe and incident free. railroad crossings or challenging areas of the route. Responsibilities:

  • Assist event participants with directions and other questions.
  • Actively encourage participants to comply with law enforcement instructions if applicable.
  • Advise participants of upcoming areas of concern.
  • Wear a bright colored vest (provided) for your safety and to be easily visible to participants
  • Notify net control, by cell phone, of any safety concerns noted at your assignment.
  • The site coordinator or SAG driver will notify you when the last participant has passed your locations. You may then proceed to your next assignment or return your safety vest to the overnight location.
  • Use common sense to provide a safe and fun experience for participants.
  • Wear a smile, thank participants and have fun while volunteering!

  • Go! St. Louis Marathon Weekend: April 6th, 2014
  • Challenge Walk MS: May 30th-June 1st, 2014
  • Bike MS (Columbia, MO): September 5th-7th, 2014

Description

The National Multiple Sclerosis Society funds more MS research, offers more services for people with MS, provides more professional education programs and advances more MS advocacy efforts than any other MS organization in the world. Through its home office and nationwide network of chapters, the National MS Society provides assistance to over a million people annually in its continuing mission to end the devastating effects of multiple sclerosis.

Seeking volunteers to the MS cause is the very core of our business. Each year the Society organizes a series of community events that provide many opportunities for the enthusiastic volunteer. The Society offers four key fund-raising activities:

  • Bike MS
  • Walk MS

The Society also engages volunteers to help influence lawmakers at the federal, state and municipal levels toward legislation important to people living with MS. The Society is looking for passionate volunteers with expertise in areas such as:

  • Marketing/Communications
  • Public relations
  • Corporate and donor development
  • Medical, legal, administrative.
