LVA trains volunteers to become Family Literacy mentors for parents to ensure they have the tools to help their own children succeed. LVA serves the metro Atlanta area, and tries to match mentors and families with similar schedules and who live in the same county/area. Mentors and families meet in a public place that is convenient for both parties. Tutors are expected to commit to meeting with a family for 2 hours per week for at least one year. There is no need to have prior teaching experience or knowledge of a foreign language. LVA provides training to volunteer Family Literacy mentors.
