Fix Your Loan, Keep Your Home
Organization |
Description
Event Overview
The Dane County Foreclosure Prevention Taskforce is organizing a free Fix Your Loan, Keep Your Home workshop for homeowners, to be held Saturday, August 1, 2009, at Madison Area Technical College's Truax Campus. Volunteer attorneys, law students and housing counselors will be on hand to help eligible homeowners apply for loan modifications under President Obama's Making Home Affordable program. The modification program works by providing incentives to lenders to lower eligible homeowners' monthly mortgage payments (including taxes and property insurance) to no more than 31% of gross monthly income. The goal is to assist struggling homeowners and stabilize housing values by offering less costly alternatives to foreclosure--less costly to lenders, less costly to homeowners and less costly to the community at-large. For homeowners who attend the Fix Your Loan, Keep Your Home event but do not meet the eligibility criteria for the Making Home Affordable program, HUD-certified housing counselors will conduct workshops on other foreclosure-prevention topics. Event Goals
The primary goal of the Fix Your Loan, Keep Your Home event is to work with as many eligible
homeowners as possible to prepare and submit applications for loan modifications under President Obama's Making Home Affordable Program. Workshop participants will also receive the tools they need to follow-up on their loan modification applications directly with their lenders. Our preliminary target is to provide assistance to 200-500 families the day of the event.
Skills
- We need volunteers from 7:30 am until 3:00 pm (at the latest). If you're only available to volunteer for a half day, that's okay too! Of course, lunch and breakfast will be provided. We need people to perform a variety of tasks. Most volunteers will have the following roles: * staffing intake tables / screening homeowners * proctoring educational workshops * working one-on-one with homeowners to complete and submit loan modification applications * manage technology: copying, faxing, scanning, etc. Volunteers will work with homeowners who are in danger of losing their homes to foreclosure. Training will be provided prior to the workshop.
