CONTACT FALL training session is 6 weeks of classroom instruction twice a week, IN-PERSON, following all COVID-19 protocols at the time, two nights a week, for 6 weeks followed by an apprenticeship period. This program emphasizes listening skills while taking time out to identify the special needs of our callers. Group discussions address topics such as loneliness, depression, suicide, grief, marriage/family, substance abuse and domestic violence. We require our volunteers to work three, four-hour shifts per month.

a week for 6 weeks, every TUESDAY & THURSDAY (beginning September 17, 2024 SUBJECT TO CHANGE) in the evening from 6:30-9:30 pm.

Mission: CONTACT of Ocean and Monmouth Counties, a non profit, charitable organization, provides trained telephone listeners who respond to human needs 24 hours every day. This volunteer based organization offers free confidential crisis intervention, information on available resources, and referral to community services.

Description: CONTACT is simply people helping people. Trained volunteers have responded to the needs of individuals throughout our community since 1975. It is CONTACT's belief that within each of us lies the ability to use our energy to find solutions. Through an extensive training period, volunteers develop empathetic listening skills to help callers determine their feelings, identify their options, and find their strengths to resolve their problems. All calls are fielded in a confidential, caring, nonjudgmental manner. We also refer callers to other available community services when appropriate.

CONTACT is simply people helping people. CONTACT volunteers field calls in a caring, non-judgmental manner. It is CONTACT's belief that each of us has the ability to use our own energy to find solutions. Through intensive training volunteers develop empathetic listening skills to help callers determine their feelings, identify options, and find their strengths to resolve problems. We also make referrals, when appropriate, to various community services that are available to the caller.

CONTACT training is 12 weeks of classroom instruction, one night a week, for 12 weeks or twice a week for 6 weeks depending on which training period followed by an apprenticeship period. CONTACT training emphasizes active listening skills while taking time out to identify the special needs of our callers. Group discussions address topics such as loneliness, depression, grief, marriage/family, substance abuse and domestic violence. We require our volunteers to work three, four hour shifts per month.
