The Sunday Swim and Sing program offers therapeutic recreation and socialization for individuals (ages 7-35) with moderate to severe neurological disabilities while providing three hours of weekly respite for their parents and caregivers.
The program is looking for dedicated, compassionate volunteers to work one-on-one with individuals during interactive music therapy and then swimming. During music therapy, participants, staff, and volunteers play instruments, sing along, and move around with a certified music therapist. Music is followed by a free swim when participants, staff, and volunteers have fun relaxing in a shallow pool.
The program is held in Newton on Sundays from 1:00 - 4:00 p.m.
Volunteer Requirements
- Commit to attending a minimum of 15 sessions a year (held on Sundays, during the day)
- Attend an initial interview and training
- At least 18 years old

Mission Statement
Jewish Family & Children's Service (JF&CS) cares for individuals and families by providing exceptional human service and health care programs, guided by Jewish traditions of social responsibility, compassion, and respect for all members of the community.
Description
For almost 150 years, Jewish Family & Children's Service has been the safety net for over 30,000 individuals and families in 80 Greater Boston communities. Since its inception, the focus of JF&CS has been to support our friends and neighbors through difficult life transitions and times of personal crisis, offering programs and services for every stage of life.
JF&CS is especially responsive to the needs of vulnerable members of our community: newborns and their parents, individuals with development disabilities or persistent mental illness, families at risk and the frail elderly. What makes our continuum of programs unique is our steadfast dedication to caring not only for the physical and economic health of individuals and families, but also for their emotional and spiritual well-being.
JF&CS is always ready to respond, no matter how difficult the problem and regardless of a person's background or ability to pay.
