Position available Fall 2009.
Open to 1st year Masters of Social Work students only.
The Domestic Search and Intermediary Service Intern will - with staff assistance - provide intermediary/search services and genetic background history services as mandated by Minnesota law and counsel adoption triad members around outreach and adoption related issues. The intern will have client contact over the phone. Requires approximately 15 daytime, business hours per week with at least a 3-6 month committment.

Responsibilities:
1.Become proficient and knowledgeable about the agency, the adoption process, and department functions.
2.Work together as a team member with paid and volunteer staff.
3.Work with a team of Search Workers to assist adopted persons with searches for biological relatives and gathering non-identifying background information.
4.Assisting with adoption related events.
5.Create an on-line support group for persons in the search process.
6.Other duties as assigned.
7.Comply with all policies and procedures of CHSFS.
Skills
- Qualifications: 1.Enrollment in a MSW or similar program 2.Ability to work as a team member and to accept responsibility 3.Ability to act independently and to seek consultation when needed. 4.Understanding and acceptance of persons from diverse cultural and economic backgrounds 5.Excellent interpersonal skills including problem solving and team building. 6.Excellent oral and written communication skills 7.Proficiency in using Microsoft Programs, such as Word & Excel 8.Interest in learning about the adoption and post adoption fields.
