Mission Statement

The Assistance Center of Collin County brings carefully qualified and prompt short-term assistance to individuals and families in financial crisis to help them regain self-sufficiency.

Through discerning programs, guidance and funds, we help stabilize Collin County families’ home economies to fight homelessness, hunger and poverty as well as help protect our entire community from a wave effect of negative impacts.


Description

In 2012, the Assistance Center of Collin County provided help, support and compassion to 17,848 residents, including our children and the elderly here in our community (City of Plano and Collin County) through the following services and programs:

  • In the fight against homelessness, the ACCC provided $80,000 of financial assistance preventing homelessness to our community households
  • In addressing the costs of unexpected utility bills, the ACCC provided $59,000 of financial assistance allowing electricity, water and gas to continue to be provided in meeting the basic needs our community households
  • In combating the high-costs of prescription medication, the ACCC provided financial assistance of $1,000 to help the indigent obtain prescription medications they would have otherwise gone without
  • In the fight against hunger, the ACCC provided one week's worth of food to 2,400 residents, including our children and the elderly when they had no assurance of their next meal
  • As part of the "Tools for School" Back to School program, the ACCC provided back packs, required school supplies and brand new shoes to 2,000 students in the Plano Independent School District (PISD) living at or below the Federal Poverty Level when they would have otherwise gone without
  • During the "Hope for the Holidays" Toy and Food Drive, the ACCC provided 1,500 children living at or below the Federal Poverty Level in the Plano Independent School District (PISD) with toys, gifts and one month of food for the holidays (including 500 families) -- some of these children and families experienced the Holidays for the very first time


Despite the economic downturn during the past three years (2010-2012), the ACCC has helped more than 61,000 residents, including our children and the elderly by:

  • Providing nearly $500,000 of financial assistance preventing homelessness to over 8,000 residents including 2,200 families
  • Providing financial assistance of more than $7,000 for emergency prescription medicines to 156 of our indigent residents including 69 families
  • Providing one week's worth of food to over 7,500 of residents including 2,733 families
  • Providing 6,200 local students with school supplies, backpacks and new shoes to start off the school year
  • Making the holidays happier for 4,500 local children including 1,500 families
  • Responding to nearly 93,000 calls for help and nearly 11,000 walk-ins serviced by t he ACCC's trained volunteer intake specialists
