Description
The California Wolf Center is a 501(c)(3) non-profit wildlife education center committed to increasing public awareness and understanding of the importance of all wildlife by focusing on the history, biology, behavior, and ecology of the gray wolf (Canis lupus). This is accomplished by offering engaging education presentations, participating in conservation programs, and hosting and funding research on both captive and free-ranging wolves. The California Wolf Center is located four miles south of Julian, California off Highway 79. The Center currently houses several packs of gray wolves, some of which are highly endangered Mexican gray wolves, among the rarest land mammals in the world. We are a major participant in the Mexican Wolf Species Survival Plan, and we are the third largest breeding and host facility for Mexican wolves in the United States.
The California Wolf Center volunteer program offers a unique opportunity to work with a wildlife non-profit. Volunteers participate in all area of operation, and specific experiences can be structured to meeting the professional, academic, and personal goals of the volunteer.
Applicants should note that volunteer positions are filled by matching our needs with an applicant's abilities and interests. Factors may include, but are not limited to, experience, education and training, availability and long term career goals. Some positions are short term (for specific projects). Other positions require training for long term development and mutual benefit. Volunteer positions may involve administrative work, facilities maintenance and improvement, education, development (memberships, fundraising, marketing), and/or animal care. You may express preferences for which area(s) you are most interested in, but you will ultimately be assigned to a position based on the needs of the facility.
To apply for the volunteer program, please fill out an application found on our website, www.californiawolfcenter.org, and submit it along with a resume detailing educational experience, work experience, volunteer experience, and any special skills you may have.
