We seek community volunteers who have a strong desire to advocate for children, who can be objective in reporting the facts to the Court, and who can work within a team of professionals to ensure safety and permanence for abused and neglected children.
CASA volunteers have a major impact on the course of the case and a positive effect on the children themselves. Children with CASAs fare better than children who do not have anyone advocating on their behalf:
A child with a CASA volunteer is more likely to find a safe, permanent home:
Children with CASA volunteers get more help while in the system...
Children with CASA volunteers spend less time in foster care...
... and are less likely to be bounced home to home.
Children with CASA volunteers do better in school
We serve Santa Fe, Rio Arriba, and Los Alamos counties of Northern New Mexico, and especially need advocates from the Espanola Valley. This service opportunity requires approximately 15-20 hours per month, with a commitment of at least 1 year.

Mission Statement
CASA recruits, trains, supports and supervises community volunteers who advocate, both in and out of the courtroom, for abused / neglected children from Santa Fe, Rio Arriba, and Los Alamos counties.
Description
When an abuse/neglect case comes into the Court system, CASA volunteers get to know the child and gather information from everyone involved in the child’s life, including family members, teachers, doctors, lawyers, and social workers.
They use the information they gather to report to the court and to advocate for the child’s needs in the foster care system. CASA volunteers commit to represent and advocate for a child’s best interests until the child finds a safe, permanent home.
