About

FAMILY HOMESTEAD BACK-TO-SCHOOL PROJECT 2016

WE NEED YOUR HELP NOW!

Every year FHS partners with volunteers to provide backpacks, clothing and school supplies for the school age children in our Emergency and Transitional Housing programs. Since last year, we have acquired new units and our program is expanding; this means we will need even more assistance from the community to meet the needs of the children.

With school beginning in Jefferson County on August 18 and in Denver on August 22, it is time to get started on this years' annual project! As the new Director of Volunteers and Development, Shalene Onyango, will be heading up the project this year and is very excited about partnering with each of you!

HOW IT WORKS:
Contact Shalene Onyango at shalene@familyhomestead.org or (303) 623-6514 and let her know you are interested in participating and how many children you would like to buy back packs, clothing and school supplies for.

Donors will receive the first name of each child/ren along with the age, gender, grade entering, clothing sizes, and any favorite styles or colors. We ask donors to supply two NEW school outfits for each child including underwear, socks, shoes, and a lightweight jacket or sweater if needed. No used or "general" clothing items, please. A backpack and school supplies for each child are also requested. We can provide a general list of school supplies if you would like one.

Spending guidelines for clothing are as follows: up to $100 for elementary children and up to $150 for anyone wearing adult sizes. The cost of school supplies is extra. For financial accountability reasons, we do not accept gift cards.

We will begin assigning children to donors the week of July 6. Assignments cannot be made earlier than that. Gifts for Transitional Housing clients will be due in our office July 29 and August 1 and 2. Gifts for Emergency Housing clients will be due August 9, 10 or 11. Please deliver your donations to our social services office at 999 Decatur, Denver 80204. Specific drop-off times will be included with your client wish list.

Please indicate how many children you’d like to shop for and which donor due date you’d prefer. The more flexible you can be, the more helpful it is to us at Family HomeStead.
