Organization |
Description
Sunday Suppers sets up a picnic every Sunday at two different locations in Northwest Washington, DC: on the corner of 4th and K STreets at 6:30pm, and on the corner of 9th and N Streets at 8:00pm. In the winter, we distribute food and cold weather gear (thermals, hats, gloves, etc.). We are looking for a TEAM of volunteers who can help us prepare and serve the food we share with our homeless and underprivileged neighbors each week.
We are looking for a team of 5-8 individuals who can volunteer ONE SUNDAY, EVERY 2nd MONTH (a total of 6 times in a year). The roles we need you to fill are as follow:
1. Soup man/Soup lady - prepare a soup. Ingredients can be provided or the cost for your own ingredients can be reimbursed. Pots can be provided
2. Sandwich man/Sandwich lady - prepare 200 baloney sandwiches, and stuff them (2 per bag) into 100 ziploc bags. The cost for the ingredients can be reimbursed
3. Egg man/Egg lady - prepare 200 hard boiled eggs. The cost for the ingredients can be reimbursed.
4. Drink man/Drink lady - fill a 5-gallon cooler with water and another one with iced tea. Iced tea mix can be provided or the cost of it can be reimbursed. Note: in the summer, we also request you to include ice in the water and iced tea coolers. In winter, we request that the iced tea be made with boiling water so that it is hot when we serve it! (Water is still served cold, even in the winter)

6. Volunteer for serving and conversing (optional)
7. Volunteer for serving and conversing (optional)

Skills
- Compassion, time-management, open-mind: 1. You need to be able to make soup, make sandwiches, boil eggs and make iced tea from a mix. Pretty simple stuff! 2. You need to be ON TIME. 3. You need to have a group to do this efficiently. The soup will take up to 2 hours to prepare. The sandwiches will take 2 hours for one person to prepare, but four people can get it done in 30 minutes. The eggs and drinks shouldn't take more than 30-45 minutes to prepare.
